Welcome to Horaido Cafe, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Kenrokumachi, Kanazawa. This delightful cafe stands out not only for its captivating offerings but also for the enchanting ambiance that envelops you as soon as you step through the doors. Situated conveniently in a picturesque area of Japan, it’s a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic taste of Japanese culinary artistry.

As you enter Horaido Cafe, you'll be greeted by friendly staff, ready to guide you through a menu designed to tantalize your taste buds and provide a cozy dining experience. The cafe is cash-only; however, its charm and quality more than compensate for this small inconvenience.

One of the highlights of the menu is the exquisite 蓬莱パフェ 和パフェ (Horai Parfait) at JP¥1,400. Layered beautifully, this dessert boasts an intricate blend of flavors and textures, making it a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Imagine indulging in a delicately crafted parfait that combines seasonal ingredients with the essence of traditional Japanese sweets.

If you are in the mood for something refreshing, don't miss the 柚子ネードソーダ (Yuzu Lemonade Soda) priced at JP¥550. Its citrusy zing uplifts your spirits, perfect for a warm day or as a delightful accompaniment to your meal. And for those who wish to savor something unique, the 白焼き団子 (White Grilled Dango) at just JP¥140 gives you a taste of Japan's classic street food culture, offering a soft and chewy texture that will keep you coming back for more.

What truly sets Horaido Cafe apart, however, is its renowned gold leaf ice cream, adored by patrons. Customer reviews highlight the experience beautifully; one reviewer shared their excitement about enjoying matcha soft serve adorned with gold flakes, describing it as a conversation starter once you’re back to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Another visitor remarked on the cafe’s atmosphere, complemented by a stunning view from the second floor, where you can unwind and soak in the surroundings. The multiple language signs ease communication and draw in a diverse crowd, enhancing the warm, welcoming vibe.

Vegetarian options are also available, with complaints about limited choices elsewhere in Kenrokuen becoming a distant memory for one satisfied customer who enjoyed a customized version of their Soy Fried Noodles. Pair that with a delectable matcha latte, and you’ve got yourself a fulfilling meal.

In summary, Horaido Cafe isn't just a place to eat; it’s an experience that merges delightful food with a charming atmosphere. If you're looking for a spot that offers both culinary creativity and a cozy retreat from the day, this cafe should be your next destination in Kanazawa.

There are a few places to eat inside here but we came here for the gold flakes ice cream! If you are in the area then this is a must-do! I got the matcha soft serve with gold flake on it and my kids got the vanilla with gold flake. You can’t twisted the gold, but the ice cream is good and it makes for a good story to tell your friends when you get back to the daily grind office life

I had a hard time finding something vegetarian in the restaurants of Kenrokuen. I was glad to find this place could make a vegetarian version of their Soy Fried Noodles. It was delicious. One of the stalls here also sells matcha lattes. That was delicious too.

We were so glad to find this place between visiting the castle and gardens. We’re vegan and this place does plates of soy or salt seasoned noodles which you can have with or without meat. The helpful server confirmed they were not egg noodles. We opted for soy noodles without meat and they were delicious. We also had some grilled dango on sticks - one soy and one kinako. Both were very tasty. Hoping this helps other vegans looking for food in the area as otherwise, there weren’t any options we could find locally. Recommended.

We were famished and on our way to the Kenroku-en Gardens when we decided to try Horaido Cafe which is just outside the entrance to the garden. We ate on the second floor which is adorned with seats small tables and coaches. Relaxing instrumental music was heard in the background which added to the atmosphere. Wife and I both had pork cutlets on rice. The bowl comes with three small cutlets and rice with a teriyaki-style sauce and finished with sliced green onions. The cutlets are thin and breaded. The meat was tender but when cooked it may dry the meat a bit. I happen to like it that way and my wife liked it just fine. Wife had a strawberry cream drink and I had a glass of Asahi beer. The beer was cold and the strawberry float delicious! The price was ¥3500 which is about what we expected. We can recommend Horaido Cafe if you’re in the area. 4.2
